Workshop: Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) System For Congestion Management

Singapore has unique practical experiences in the introduction and operations of the manual and Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) systems. In the workshop, domain specialists and senior professionals from the Land Transport Authority will present an overview of Singapore’s approach to road pricing and how it has leveraged on road pricing as part of its transport demand management strategy towards building an efficient and sustainable land transport system. Key topics
to be covered include:

  • Singapore’s pioneering effort in road pricing – The Area Licensing Scheme
  • Introduction of a country-wide ERP system: Technical and operational aspects
  • Challenges and experience in the implementation of ERP
Delegates will get a chance to visit the ERP Control Centre and Gantry to get a close view of the operations of
the ERP system

Land Transport Gallery Tour

The Land Transport Gallery was newly opened in January 2008 with the aim to explain, in an interesting and interactive way, the development of land transport in Singapore and how improvements have been made possible. At the gallery, delegates will get a glimpse on the history, progress and future of Singapore’s land transport, experience the issues surrounding land transport and vote on transport choices.

Half-day Technical Site Visit: KPE Underground Expressway Tunnel and Control Centre

The Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway will be the longest road tunnel in South-East Asia. When fully completed in 2008 at a cost of S$1.8 billion, it will be 12km long, of which 8.5km is underground. Phase I of the expressway has been in operation since October 2007. In the site visit, a senior official from KPE project team will present the key features of the expressway tunnel, including traffic control, safety provision, emergency evacuation, ventilation, fire protection and control centre for monitoring, and response control. The site visit will include a tour of a section of the KPE tunnel and visit to the Control Centre.
